SENIOR EVIE TELLERS NAMED 2025 ATHENA AWARD WINNER
Waconia High School senior Evie Tellers is the recipient of the school’s 2025 Athena Award. Sponsored by the Minneapolis Athena Awards Committee, the Athena Award is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for female high school seniors. Selection of the outstanding female athlete from each school is based on excellence in individual sports or for participation and accomplishments in team sports.
Tellers is a three-sport athlete (tennis, gymnastics and lacrosse) who is also active in the school’s weightlifting program. She has earned a total of 12 varsity letters, has been a team captain six times, and has earned a multitude of most valuable player and all-conference awards in all three sports. Outside of varsity athletics, Tellers is an officer for both National Honor Society and the WHS Conservation Club, is President of the school’s DECA chapter, and is also a member of the Student Council.
HACKLER WINS SECOND STRAIGHT STATE TITLE IN 100 BREASTSTROKE
Senior Jack Hackler won his second straight State Championship in the 100-yard breaststroke and added an eighth place finish in the 200-yard individual medley as the boys swimming team concluded its season at the State Meet at the University of Minnesota.
Junior Sam Swanson placed ninth in the 100-yard freestyle and 10th in the 200-yard individual medley. Junior Henry Kleve placed 19th in the 50-yard freestyle. The Wildcats also took 6th place in two separate relay events using Hackler, Swanson, Kleve, seniors Alex Kearney and Nolan Sannito and sophomore Michael Sower.
BAUEROVA WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN VAULT
Waconia High School senior Kaia Bauerova won the Class AA State Championship in the Vault on February 22 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. Bauerova's score of 9.825 was tops among the 48 state qualifiers in the event. In addition to her state title on vault, Bauerova also placed 9th on the Uneven Bars with a score of 9.0875 and 21st on Floor Exercise with a score of 9.1375
JAHNKE TAKES 4TH AT STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to senior Cooper Jahnke for finishing his high school wrestling career by placing 4th in the Class 3A 215-pound division at the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday, March 1. Jahnke won three of his five matches over the weekend at the State Tournament to finish the season on the podium with a record of 47-8.
Congratulations are also in order to Carter Katherman, Will Katherman, Breslyn Kirkpatrick, Sawyer Nemitz and Ian Olson who also qualified and competed at this year's State Tournament.
STAR TRIBUNE FEATURES WHS CONSERVATION CLUB
Star Tribune Outdoors Reporter Tony Kennedy recently featured the Waconia High School Conservation Club. The story details how the club, which has grown in popularity over the years, organizes an annual ice fishing field trip for the District's fifth graders, along with multiple other community service projects throughout the year.
